Prop Firm Comparison

Futures Prop Firm Rules That Actually Matter

Futures prop firm rules determine how much room an account really has, when it can be traded, and whether profits become eligible for payout. The headline account size and evaluation price do not answer those questions.

A useful comparison follows the complete account path: evaluation, simulated funded stage, any transition or activation fee, payout eligibility, and the conditions that can still breach or restrict the account.

Quick Answer

Compare the drawdown calculation first, then daily loss, consistency, payout, contract scaling, and trading restrictions for the exact account stage. A cheaper evaluation can be a worse fit when its usable drawdown or payout path conflicts with how you trade.

Source-listed data is not the same as direct checkout verification. Listings not observed in the last seven days are marked “Needs refresh.” Rules can differ by account stage and can change without notice. Follow the source link and confirm the current firm terms before purchasing or trading an account.

Drawdown Geometry

Identify whether the loss floor is static, end-of-day trailing, or intraday trailing, where it locks, and which account value moves it.

Payout Path

Compare minimum profitable days, consistency limits, buffers, payout cadence, caps, and any rules that reset after a withdrawal.

Trading Restrictions

Check contract scaling, permitted times, news, overnight or weekend holding, automation, copying, and platform access.

1. Maximum Drawdown and Daily Loss

Maximum drawdown defines the account floor. A static floor stays fixed. An end-of-day trailing floor generally ratchets from completed balance checkpoints. An intraday trailing floor may follow live equity, so open profit can reduce the room available after price reverses.

A daily loss limit is separate. It can end one trading day even when the account remains above its overall drawdown floor. Compare whether open P&L counts, when the daily calculation resets, and whether touching the limit closes positions or breaches the account.

2. Profit Targets and Consistency Rules

An evaluation profit target says how much profit is required to pass. A consistency rule asks how that profit was distributed across days or trades. A large winning day can therefore move a trader closer to the target while making the consistency requirement harder to satisfy.

Check whether consistency applies during evaluation, funded payouts, or both. Also verify whether the percentage is based on total profit, the largest day, or another firm-specific calculation.

3. Payout Eligibility and Costs

Compare the full cost path rather than the advertised evaluation fee: recurring evaluation charges, activation or transition fees, reset costs, data fees, minimum withdrawal amounts, payout caps, profit splits, and required trading days.

Discount codes can reduce the initial price without changing the account rules. Confirm the final checkout total and whether the code changes renewal, reset, or activation pricing.

4. Contract Scaling and Account Stage

The maximum advertised contract size may not be available immediately. Some accounts start with a smaller permitted size and increase it after profit or buffer milestones. Micros and minis may also be counted differently.

Record the limit for the stage you are actually trading, not merely the largest number on the sales page. A position that fits the platform can still violate the firm rule.

5. News, Holding, Automation, and Platforms

Verify restrictions around high-impact news, overnight and weekend holding, copy trading, automated strategies, hedging, and minimum holding times. These policies can differ between evaluation and funded accounts even within the same firm.

Platform compatibility is also account-specific. Confirm that the desired plan exposes the broker connection and workflow you intend to use before purchasing it.

How to Compare Accounts Without Missing the Important Rule

Write down each rule using the same fields for every account: source, account stage, calculation basis, reset time, trigger, consequence, and last verification date. Mark unknown values as unknown instead of assuming they match another plan.

Then use the TradeReign prop firm finder to compare the accounts and sourced offers that fit your requirements. Always verify the final terms directly with the firm because pricing and rules can change.

FAQ

Common Questions

What futures prop firm rules should I compare first?

Start with the drawdown calculation, daily loss limit, payout eligibility, consistency requirement, permitted contract size, and the rules that change between evaluation and funded stages.

Is end-of-day drawdown different from intraday drawdown?

Yes. End-of-day drawdown generally updates from a completed daily balance checkpoint, while intraday drawdown may move with live equity. Exact definitions and lock levels vary by firm and account.

Does the cheapest prop firm account have the best rules?

Not necessarily. The evaluation price is only one cost. Drawdown behavior, activation fees, payout conditions, consistency requirements, scaling, and reset policies can materially change the usable value of an account.
